About Us

‘The purpose of the association is to provide support for the member historical societies and history groups in the Eastern region of Melbourne and to

– foster the study of history and the preservation of historical materials

– promote and arrange activities associated with the documenting, collection and preservation of historic artefacts and sites

– encourage the research, documentation and publication of history

– encourage member historical societies and history groups to liaise with libraries, schools, interested groups and the wider community

– encourage collaboration and the exploration of options to work with councils in the identification and preservation of historical buildings and structures within the relevant communities.

The AEHS meets four times annually (including the AGM, held alongside a general meeting) to share updates, address common issues, and offer mutual support.  Meetings rotate through member venues.

The AEHS also provides a meeting speaker who provides an element of skills development for member groups.

The Association holds a biennial conference featuring speakers providing information, inspiration and educational material.

Acknowledgement of Country

We respectfully acknowledge the traditional owners, the Woi wurrung and Boon wurrung speaking people, as the custodians of the land on which members of the Association of Eastern Historical Societies meet and work.

We also pay respect to all Aboriginal Community Elders, past and present, who have resided in this area and have been an integral part of the history of this region.
